You ran a health check, saw some issues, and clicked Fix All. What did Georaf actually do to your file? This page walks through every repair, what’s happening behind the scenes, and when you might want to skip the fix and go back to the source instead.

How to do it

Open any health report. If the third stage (Fixable issues) shows a count of entries that can be repaired, you’ll see a Fix All (N) button. Click it. After the fix runs, you’ll see the new score and a Download fixed file button. Your original file is never touched. You always get a separate clean copy. If you don’t like the result, delete the fixed copy and try again.

What Fix All does

Fix All combines two things into one click:

Repair broken entries

When an entry’s outline crosses itself (a figure-8 instead of a clean oval), or its parts don’t fit together properly, we untangle it. The exact operation depends on the kind of break, but the goal is the same: produce a clean entry that covers the same ground as the broken original. Why it’s safe: the area covered does not change. Only the way the outline is described does. Edge case: if the original entry was so tangled that there’s no clean way to interpret it, you’ll end up with several separate entries instead of one. The fix summary tells you when this happens, so you can decide if the result is what you wanted.

Close unclosed outlines

A polygon outline that doesn’t loop back to its starting point gets that starting point appended, so it closes cleanly. The shape on the map looks the same as before, but strict tools that previously refused the file will now accept it. Why it’s safe: we only add the single closing point. The interior of the shape doesn’t move.

Drop invalid entries from the cleaned copy

Entries the health check marked as invalid (empty geometry, coordinates outside the world, rows that didn’t parse) cannot be auto-repaired. They are dropped from the cleaned copy so the file you download is usable. The original file still has them. If you need to investigate, download the invalid subset separately from the health report.

What auto-fix does not do

Fix All only touches entries the health check flagged as fixable. It does not:
  • Remove duplicate entries
  • Reconcile overlapping entries
  • Standardize property fields
  • Reproject to a different coordinate system
  • Modify any of your properties
If you need any of that, it has to happen at the source.

After the fix

The fixed copy is a fresh file in your account with its own filename (the original name plus _fixed). You can download it, run another health check on it (the score should be higher), embed it, or convert it to another format. The fixed file is the same format as the original. If you uploaded a Shapefile, you get a Shapefile back. If you uploaded GeoJSON, you get GeoJSON.

Plan limits

Fix All has no monthly cap on any plan. The file-size limits match the health check itself:
  • Free: files up to 1 MB
  • Pro: files up to 25 MB
  • Team: files up to 50 MB
See Plans & limits for the full breakdown.
